Nelly Madison Clothing Co.  This company loaded it's first dress just over a year ago, and the BST community has been rallying around and begging for more and more with every release. Nelly has yet to disappoint, and this next release, Picnic on the Potomac has set the bar even higher.

We love patriotic everything in our little milfam.  But, I'm picky about our red, white and blue.  I'm not into kitschy prints or patterns, and the tones of red, white and blue have to be JUST right, or it just looks cheap to me.  Well, guess what? The owner/designer, Camille, over at Nelly Madison has NAILED it. Not once, not twice, but at least FIVE times over the last year.  She somehow finds the perfect combinations of red, white and blue that make each design unique and totally wearable all year round.

So let's check this dress out. It's a Christina style. Christina's are a single layer dress, with one ruffle, a defined bodice, and ties at the shoulder.  It's lightweight and perfect for the hot months, but easy to layer for cooler days too. And if you live anywhere like Oklahoma, it can be cold in the morning, but scorching by noon, so layering is important to us!  The fabric is a nice blue-based plaid with white (not cream) and red. Binding and ties are an amazing red color. And the bodice is white with red buttons.

So while the fabric and design makes me happy, what does Merce think about it? She loves it! It twirls and allows her to move and climb and dance.  I believe her exact words were "it's so pretty! Are we taking pictures?!" Well Merce, if you insist!  She's wearing a sz 5 as a dress. We LOVE a vintage length, but don't worry, there's always bloomies or shorties of some sort under there. Merce can also wear a sz 4 as a tunic, and a 6 as a longer dress.  She's 48" and 50# in this picture. Sizing on the shoulder tie style dresses are versatile, you can tie them tighter or loose to grow with your girl

Let's talk bloomies now.  She's wearing a sz 4 bloomie from Nelly Madison Clothing Co. She has a little room to grow in the bloomies, and the legs are not tight at all. But she has some serious bird legs and a major lack of booty. Overall, bloomie sizing is generous and versatile. You can order your girls normal sizes or go up or down with ease, depending on their body type. These released March 15, 2017 in sizes 18m, 2, 3, 4, and sold out almost immediately. But don't worry, I hear there are more coming in the near future, and up to size 6!

And finally, layering. This is my favorite combo so far.  This Cat & Jack cropped jean jacket (sz xs, then tend to run big) is a perfect fit over the sz 5 PoP, sz 4 red bloomies hidden under there, random silver sparkle socks from the clearance bin at Dillard, and SweetHoney red suede boots. These boots seem to run tts for us....but it's hard to tell b/c the toe is hard to push on and I don't know exactly where her toe is. But she doesn't complain, and they are a size 1. We purchased them on sale for around $15 through the website. Totally worth the money! Quality is decent too! They smelled pretty strong when we opened them, but a day or two airing out in the garage helped that. I don't know what they smelled like, some kind of chemical or something?

Release date for Picnic on the Potomac is Monday May 22, 2017 at 0800 AM EST! It will retail for $58, and be available in size 6m, 12m, 18m, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7/8, 9/10, and it has been announced that it's a larger load than the past few...but that doesn't mean it won't sell out quick! Get your carting fingers ready and warmed up, and get you some PoP!
